Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian says the current moment could be the best opportunity to reach an agreement with the United States, as diplomatic efforts intensify despite major disagreements between Tehran and Washington.
Pezeshkian has called for an end to the prolonged “no war, no peace” situation, signaling that Tehran remains interested in finding a diplomatic way forward.
However, Iran says it is not ready for direct negotiations with Washington while it believes the United States has failed to honor conditions agreed under an earlier interim understanding. Messages between the two sides are currently being exchanged through intermediaries.
One of the biggest obstacles remains the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global energy route that carries roughly a fifth of international oil and gas shipments.
Iran says reopening the waterway depends on major U.S. concessions, including an end to military threats, sanctions relief, compensation for wartime damage, and the release of frozen Iranian assets.
Meanwhile, negotiations involving Oman are reportedly nearing an agreement on arrangements for maritime traffic, although Tehran has stressed that such an arrangement alone would not guarantee a full reopening of the strait.
The developments offer a possible path toward de-escalation, but major differences remain.
For now, indirect diplomacy continues as both sides weigh whether a broader agreement can finally bring an end to the confrontation and restore stability to the Gulf.
