Security forces in Pakistan have neutralised eight militants during an intelligence-based operation near the border with Afghanistan in the North Waziristan District, according to the military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations.
Officials say the movement of the group, described as India-sponsored and linked to “Fitna al-Khawarij,” was detected through intelligence monitoring. Security forces engaged the militants in a targeted operation, resulting in all eight being killed. Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the site.
The military stated that the operation underscores ongoing concerns over cross-border militancy and reiterated its position on the need for stronger border management on the Afghan side. It urged the Afghan Taliban authorities to prevent the use of their territory for attacks inside Pakistan.
Pakistan’s security forces have reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding national frontiers, with continued sanitisation operations underway to eliminate any remaining threats in the area.
The development comes amid a broader surge in militant activity since the Afghan Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in 2021. Border regions, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, have witnessed increased violence and security challenges.
In response, Pakistan has intensified its counterterrorism efforts under operations such as “Azm-e-Istehkam” and Operation Ghazab lil-Haq, targeting militant networks and cross-border threats.
Despite multiple rounds of talks between the two sides, tensions persist, with no major breakthrough achieved so far. The situation continues to pose a serious challenge to regional stability and security.
