The U.S. Justice Department has published previously unreleased FBI documents from the Jeffrey Epstein files that include allegations involving President Donald Trump amid growing scrutiny over transparency and legal obligations. These newly disclosed records stem from four FBI interviews conducted in 2019 with a woman who accused Epstein of sexually abusing her as a teenager and in interviews later in that year also claimed that after being introduced by Epstein in the 1980s Trump attempted to force her into sexual acts when she was between 13 and 15 years old. The documents had not been publicly released previously because they were mistakenly coded as duplicates by the Justice Department and omitted from earlier tranches of the massive Epstein files archive that Congress mandated be disclosed under the Epstein Files Transparency Act. Once the error was identified the department moved to post these additional files online as part of its ongoing release. The White House and President Trump have strongly denied the allegations labeling them baseless and lacking credible evidence and officials note that the claims remain unverified and uncorroborated. The Justice Department itself has cautioned that some of the records include “untrue and sensationalist claims” that were submitted to the FBI particularly around the time of the 2020 election. The release has intensified political pressure in Washington where Democrats and some Republicans have criticized how the department handled the disclosure process including accusations that relevant files were hidden or delayed. A House committee has even voted to subpoena U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi to explain the DOJ’s handling of the Epstein related documents. At this stage no federal investigation has been announced based solely on these newly released documents and Trump continues to deny any involvement in wrongdoing. The story remains a developing legal and political flashpoint as the full trove of Epstein files continues to be made public.
