Pakistan’s Interior and Narcotics Control Minister Mohsin Naqvi has announced plans to develop Islamabad along the lines of Shanghai aiming to transform the capital into a modern well‑planned metropolis.
During his visit to Shanghai’s Urban Planning Headquarters in China Naqvi was briefed on the city’s rapid development advanced infrastructure and integrated civic management systems. He highlighted the technology driven planning state of the art stadiums and efficient public services that have made Shanghai a global benchmark for urban growth.
Naqvi expressed his determination to adapt lessons from Shanghai to Islamabad emphasizing that the capital could benefit from modern infrastructure improved civic amenities and enhanced urban management bringing it in line with international standards.
The minister was accompanied by senior officials including the Federal Interior Secretary Chief Commissioner of Islamabad and the Inspector General of Islamabad Police who participated in discussions on potential cooperation and professional exchanges between Shanghai Special Police Force and Islamabad Police especially in training and urban safety.
Authorities say the initiative aims to modernize public services strengthen law enforcement and improve the quality of life for Islamabad residents. Naqvi called Shanghai’s development model a benchmark for cities worldwide and said Pakistan is committed to embracing modern urban strategies and international best practices to ensure sustainable growth for its capital.
This ambitious plan reflects Islamabad’s broader vision to become a global standard city leveraging technology planning expertise and international cooperation to drive a new era of urban development in Pakistan.
