The European Union is on the brink of finalizing a historic free trade agreement with India European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Tuesday at the World Economic Forum in Davos underscoring that after years of complex negotiations both sides are now very close to sealing a pact that could become one of the biggest trade deals India has ever concluded opening vast market access between the EU’s 27 member states and India’s 1.4 billion-plus population with negotiators working to iron out remaining details ahead of a planned India-EU summit in New Delhi on January 27 where the agreement may be formally signed pending legal clearances on both sides; the deal comes after talks that began more than a decade ago and has accelerated in recent months amid shifting global trade dynamics with both sides eager to deepen economic ties as supply chains and markets adjust to rising protectionism elsewhere and while sensitive sectors such as agriculture remain under discussion officials from both Brussels and New Delhi have signaled strong political will to conclude the pact soon which would significantly boost goods services and investment flows and mark a major step in strengthening the strategic partnership between India and the European Union.
