Pakistan’s security forces have destroyed three Afghan Taliban posts along the Chaman border in Balochistan in response to a ceasefire violation killing at least 23 Afghan soldiers local sources report.
According to officials Taliban forces initiated unprovoked small arms fire around midnight prompting an immediate and measured response from Pakistani forces. The engagement lasted about 45 minutes during which precision weapons were used to target the posts while minimizing harm to civilians.
To halt further escalation Pakistan employed heavier weapons including rocket launchers mortars and armed swarm drones. The attacks forced Taliban soldiers to retreat using civilian areas as cover but were met with another round of precise counterfire. Following significant losses Taliban forces raised white flags and were allowed to evacuate casualties under Pakistani supervision.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s spokesperson Mosharraf Zaidi condemned the “unprovoked firing” and affirmed Pakistan’s commitment to defending its territory and citizens. Meanwhile Afghan Taliban officials claimed Pakistani shelling in Kandahar killed five people including one Taliban member highlighting conflicting accounts of the incident.
The clash underscores ongoing tensions along the Pakistan Afghanistan border and the volatility of the ceasefire in the region.
