The Miss Universe 2025 pageant is in turmoil following a public confrontation between Miss Universe Mexico, Fatima Bosch, and Thailand director Nawat Itsaragrisil. During a pre-pageant event streamed live on social media, Itsaragrisil berated Bosch for allegedly refusing to post promotional content for Thailand. The argument escalated, prompting Bosch to walk out, followed by several contestants including reigning Miss Universe Victoria Theilvig from Denmark.
Itsaragrisil was seen threatening to disqualify anyone supporting Bosch, drawing immediate criticism from fans and contestants. Outside the venue, Theilvig condemned the director’s behavior, calling it “beyond disrespectful.” Many accused Itsaragrisil of tarnishing Thailand’s reputation as a host, citing past controversies, including last year’s resignation of Miss Grand International 2024 winner Rachel Gupta over a “toxic environment.”
Raul Rocha, president of the Miss Universe Organisation, released a video denouncing Itsaragrisil’s actions and announced that MUO executives, including Chief Executive Mario Bucaro, would travel to Thailand to take charge of the situation. Rocha emphasized that legal action may follow and vowed to protect contestants from harm. The pageant, featuring 122 participants, now faces intense scrutiny ahead of its finale, with the organization under pressure to reaffirm its commitment to respect and dignity for all contestants.
