Rockstar Games has announced a 2nd delay for the highly anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto 6, now scheduled for 19th November 2026.
Originally slated for May 2026, the sequel had already been postponed from its initial autumn 2025 release. According to the developer, the extra time is required to ensure the game meets the level of polish & quality that fans expect.
GTA 5, the previous installment released in 2013, remains one of the best selling games of all time & continues to enjoy immense popularity due to its online mode.
Rockstar expressed its apologies for the additional wait, while also expressing excitement for players to explore the new game’s setting of Leonida, a fictional US state inspired by Florida & a modern day version of Miami’s Vice City.
Players can expect an immersive storyline following protagonists Jason & Lucia, alongside new characters & expanded map locations.
The delay comes amid controversy at Rockstar’s UK studios, where 31 employees were recently dismissed.
The Independent Workers Union of Great Britain has accused the company of targeting staff to prevent unionisation, prompting protests outside Rockstar & Take-Two Interactive offices in London & Edinburgh. The company has remained largely silent about these allegations.
Rockstar has a history of postponing its major releases, including Red Dead Redemption 2, which was delayed by roughly a year to ensure quality.
The increasing complexity & scope of modern games, coupled with rising development costs, have made publishers cautious about releasing unfinished products.
GTA 6 is expected to be among the most expensive video games ever produced & is anticipated to break records with its launch, though whether it will meet the high expectations of fans remains to be seen.
