MCPS Successfully Tested at 32,000 Feet

India’s Defence Research & Development Organisation
has successfully tested a locally developed Military Combat Parachute System at
an altitude of 32,000 feet, marking a significant milestone in the country’s
defence capabilities.

This development enables deployment of the parachute
system at altitudes above 25,000 feet, making it the only such system currently
in operational use by the Indian armed forces capable of high altitude
operations.

The MCPS was developed jointly by DRDO’s Aerial Delivery
Research and Development Establishment in Agra & the Defence Bioengineering
& Electro Medical Laboratory in Bengaluru.

The successful combat freefall jump was executed by Indian
Air Force test jumpers, demonstrating the system’s reliability, efficiency, and
advanced design features.

The parachute system incorporates enhanced tactical
capabilities, including a reduced rate of descent and superior steering,
allowing paratroopers to exit aircraft safely, deploy parachutes at
predetermined altitudes, navigate accurately & land at designated zones.

The MCPS is also compatible with India’s indigenous
satellite navigation system, NavIC, ensuring precise navigation &
operational independence from external interference or denial of service
threats.

This achievement opens the path for the induction of
indigenously developed parachute systems, reinforcing India’s focus on self
reliance in defence technology and operational readiness for high altitude
missions.
