Hull KR half-back Mikey Lewis and Leeds centre Harry Newman are set to make their England debuts in the first Test against Tonga at St Helens on Sunday.

The duo have been included in Shaun Wane's 19-man squad, with 22-year-old Saints full-back Jack Welsby named England's youngest men's captain.

Welsby will lead the side with regular skipper George Williams suspended for the first two matches.

Dom Young, the NRL's leading try-scorer in 2023, is out with injury.

Young's absence means Tom Johnstone, who scored 28 tries in all competitions for Super League Grand Finalists Catalans Dragons in 2023, is set to line up on the wing.

Johnstone, hooker Daryl Clark and Leigh forward Robbie Mulhern are all poised to make their first international appearances since 2018.

Wane said: "I'm really pleased and confident with the squad I've selected for this opening fixture against Tonga.

"We've had a strong week since arriving in camp and we are heading into this weekend focused with a job to do. We hope that the fans will turn out in their numbers to help us over the line."

Sunday's match is the first of three games between the sides, with matches to follow in Huddersfield (28 October) and Leeds (4 November).
