Mason Greenwood reportedly asked one Getafe player what it was like to play with Lionel Messi following his move to the club.
And the striker, who moved from Manchester United on transfer deadline day, is said to have ‘seriously matured’.
All eyes will be on Greenwood this weekend with the 21-year-old expected to make his debut for Getafe against Osasuna on Sunday.
The forward is aiming to rebuild his career away from England after charges of attempted rape and assault were dropped in February.
Mason Greenwood asked a Getafe player what it was like to play with Lionel Messi
According to the Daily Mail, Greenwood has adjusted well to life in his new surroundings.
Team-mates have welcomed him to the club, aware the forward could play a key role as they look to remain in La Liga and stave off the threat of relegation.
Greenwood apparently asked one player, who used to be team-mates with Messi at Barcelona, what it was like to play alongside the World Cup winner.
And a close friend has claimed the United loanee has ‘seriously matured’.
They also say Greenwood was fearful in England but can’t believe how well life in Spain have gone for him so far.
“For a long time his life in Manchester was restricted to his house,†a close friend is quoted as saying.
“In Spain he can go to the supermarket and the restaurant and if people recognise him they are warm towards him.
“The fear he had in the UK is not there anymore. It’s early, but he can’t believe how well it has gone so far.â€
The publication says United are continuing to offer support for Greenwood during his time away from the club.
They have facilitated travel and accommodation for the player and are ‘happy’ with the situation so far.
It is also claimed that United view Greenwood very much as their player, too.
They stress he has not been found guilty of any crime and believe they have a ‘responsibility’ to ensure he can restart his career.
Coaching staff at Getafe have been impressed by what they’ve seen from Greenwood in training so far.
Yet they also believe he needs time, with the youngster looking ‘rusty’ during sessions so far.
Meanwhile, Getafe boss Jose Bordalas explained his side’s decision to sign Greenwood earlier this month by saying: “It is a very delicate situation to trivialise this issue.
“Every[one] knows what happened and the appropriate measures were taken, obviously, we can only talk about football.
“Regarding the other issues, I believe that the people and the relevant authorities did what they had to do and everyone knows how it ended with a non-conviction sentence.
“Therefore, he is a free person, a footballer of a very high level and who arrives at Getafe with enormous enthusiasm and that we are obviously going to help him so that he recovers back to his best level.
“I have already commented what I had to comment. I can only speak on a football level.
“We all know the potential he has. He is a very young boy, he is still 21 years old and we can help him adapt to a situation.
Mason Greenwood has ‘seriously matured’ since joining Getafe from Man Utd
“It’s a different league but because of the potential he has, I’m sure that if he physically reaches a good level, I’m convinced of him because of how young he is and because we’ve been informed that he obviously wants to recover his professional status and Getafe can help him in that.â€
