Dozens of people in Surrey have been evacuated or led to safety since Sunday amid flooding in the area.

Lloyd Hatton, flood response lead at Surrey Fire and Rescue Service, said they had been helping people in the Egham and Chertsey areas.

Four dedicated rest centres have also been opened in the area, Mr Hatton told OceanNewsUK

He said: "Please do not drive through flood water for your own safety."

In the early hours of Monday, 32 people were also evacuated from Abbeyfields mobile home park in Thameside, Chertsey.

Egham Town councillor Sam Jenkins said: "The water levels on the Thames seem to be stabilising, but the fallout for Runnymede isn't over yet. Some properties are still at significant risk."

Homes and businesses have flooded in Surrey because of rising water levels in the River Thames after a sustained period of rain.

Almost the whole stretch of the River Thames in Surrey was subject to warnings on Tuesday, affecting areas including Chertsey, Walton, Sunbury, Molesey and Egham.
