The Indiana Pacers beat NBA Eastern Conference leaders the Boston Celtics 133-131 despite losing point guard Tyrese Haliburton to injury.

Haliburton was carried off by team-mates after suffering a hamstring strain late in the second period.

Bennedict Mathurin scored 26 points off the bench for the Pacers, who trailed 68-59 at half-time.

"We lost the best player on the team, so my role was to step up and help the team win the game," Mathurin said.

"Ty was down but it felt like the team pretty much knew what to do. Everyone had to step up. If your name gets called, be ready to play."

Haliburton, who joined the Pacers from the Sacramento Kings in 2022, averaged a team-high 24.2 points and a league-high 12.7 assists in 32 games before the meeting with the Celtics at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indiana.

Boston remain top of the Eastern Conference at 28-8, while fifth-placed Indiana improved to 21-15.

Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant will miss the rest of the season after injuring a shoulder in practice on Saturday.

The Grizzlies said on Monday that Morant, who missed the first 25 games of the season while serving an NBA suspension for displaying a gun on social media, will have surgery on the tear.

Paul George scored 25 points and James Harden 19 as the Los Angeles Clippers bounced back from their loss to the Los Angeles Lakers with a 138-111 home win over the Phoenix Suns.

Giannis Antetokounmpo's triple-double of 25 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds could not prevent the Milwaukee Bucks falling to a 132-116 home defeat by the Utah Jazz, their fourth loss in five games.

The Washington Wizards slipped to a fifth straight defeat, losing 136-128 at home to the Oklahoma City Thunder as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 32 points and rookie Chet Holmgren 31.
