Pakistani security forces have launched a retaliatory operation against multiple Afghan Taliban border positions following reported firing on Pakistani checkpoints in the Angoor Adda area of South Waziristan.
According to the deputy commissioner, Pakistani forces targeted several Afghan Taliban border posts, mortar positions and defensive installations after what officials described as unprovoked firing. The response was aimed at positions from which the attacks were reportedly launched.
Officials say the operation forced Afghan Taliban personnel to abandon their positions and flee from the area. No casualties have been reported on the Pakistani side in the latest exchange.
The latest confrontation comes amid growing tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. Last week, deadly cross-border shelling reportedly killed one civilian and left five others injured, raising concerns over the safety of people living near the frontier.
The repeated exchanges of fire have added pressure on an already fragile border situation, with fears that further incidents could trigger a wider confrontation.
Attention is now focused on developments along the frontier and efforts to prevent further clashes between Pakistani forces and Afghan Taliban personnel.
