U.S. President Donald Trump says Iran is “ready to fold up,” as Washington weighs whether to pursue diplomacy or resume military action against Tehran. Trump has also warned that even if an agreement is reached, Iran may not honor its commitments.

The comments come as efforts to end the conflict remain uncertain. Trump has rejected Iran’s latest proposal, saying it does not go far enough, while warning that further military action remains possible after the U.S. midterm elections.

Iran, however, says it remains open to negotiations. Iranian officials have continued working through mediators and have called for a diplomatic solution to the conflict.

A major obstacle remains the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial route for global energy shipments. Tehran has proposed a phased reopening of the waterway as part of a broader ceasefire arrangement.

The two sides also remain divided over sanctions, the terms of any ceasefire and what commitments would be required from each government.

Iranian officials say diplomacy remains possible, but Tehran is also preparing for a possible return to fighting if U.S. military operations resume.

With tensions still high, the next moves by Washington and Tehran could determine whether negotiations gain momentum or the conflict enters another phase of military escalation.
