A Russian drone has struck a building belonging to Ukraine’s National Academy of Sciences in central Kyiv, killing a woman and injuring three other people. The attack hit the Shevchenkivskyi district and sparked a major fire inside the building.
Heavy smoke could be seen rising from the structure as firefighters and emergency crews rushed to the scene. Footage showed people escaping through windows while rescuers searched the damaged building for anyone who may have been trapped.
The attack came during another wave of Russian drone strikes across the Ukrainian capital. Officials reported damage in several Kyiv districts, including fires at other buildings and a strike on a petrol station.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said rescue operations were underway and warned that Russia would face a response for the attack.
The strike was part of a wider series of Russian attacks across Ukraine, with Kyiv, Kharkiv and other cities coming under sustained aerial assault.
Ukrainian officials say the repeated attacks are placing continued pressure on air defences and emergency services.
As crews assess the damage in central Kyiv, authorities remain on alert for further drone attacks, while efforts continue to assist those affected by the latest strikes.
