US President Donald Trump gave Chinese President Xi Jinping a tour of the White House’s South Lawn helipad and Marine One after their high-level meeting in Washington. Trump described the talks as a “great meeting” as the two leaders sought to present a more stable tone in US-China relations.

The meeting brought together the leaders of the world’s two largest economies, with trade and artificial intelligence among the key issues under discussion. Broader strategic questions, including security and the growing competition between Washington and Beijing, also remained central to the talks.

The personal tour added a symbolic element to the visit. Trump showed Xi the presidential helicopter and the newly redesigned helipad, while the two leaders exchanged warm remarks during their appearance together.

Xi said the United States and China should manage their competition through cooperation and described the relationship as one where both sides could benefit from working together. He also called for regular military communication to help prevent potential crises.

The summit also included discussions on technology and artificial intelligence, areas where Washington and Beijing remain major competitors.

The White House visit was Xi’s first trip to Washington in more than a decade, making the meeting a significant moment in the relationship between the two countries.

Despite continuing disagreements over trade, technology and security, the leaders used the visit to emphasize dialogue, communication and the importance of managing differences between the United States and China.
