U.S. President Donald Trump delivered a forceful address at the United Nations General Assembly, using the speech to defend his administration’s foreign policy and warn that Washington will continue using economic and military pressure against governments it considers threats to U.S. interests.
Trump pointed to the recent confrontation with Tehran, defending American military action and arguing that the campaign was aimed at stopping Iran from developing a nuclear weapon. He said Washington remains open to a deal, but warned that continued confrontation could bring further pressure.
He also linked the wider Middle East crisis to the strategic importance of global energy supplies, particularly the disruption surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, saying the United States would continue taking steps to protect international shipping and energy flows.
Turning to the Western Hemisphere, Trump spoke about Washington’s growing pressure on Venezuela, highlighting the country’s vast oil resources and the potential for its energy sector to play a major role in regional and global markets.
His remarks also addressed Cuba, where he called for political change and said pressure on Havana was increasing. Trump suggested that negotiations and economic measures could help push the island toward a different political future.
Across the speech, Trump presented a foreign-policy approach centered on American strength, economic leverage and military deterrence, while arguing that negotiations remain possible when they serve U.S. interests.
The address reflected his broader message that Washington intends to take a more assertive role in confronting governments it sees as challenging American security and influence.
