Pakistan says it has carried out airstrikes against militant hideouts in the Afghanistan border region, killing 28 militants, including several suspected suicide bombers.
The Information Ministry said the strikes targeted three locations used by what it described as terrorist organisations responsible for recent attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
One of the targets was identified as a training centre for suicide bombers. Pakistan said weapons and ammunition stored at the sites were also destroyed.
The strikes followed an intelligence-based ground operation in the Kohat and Hangu districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where Pakistani authorities said nine additional militants were killed.
Pakistan has accused militant groups based in Afghanistan of planning and supporting attacks inside the country, including the recent deadly assault on a police compound in Kohat.
Afghan authorities have rejected Pakistan’s account of the strikes. Taliban officials said the attacks hit areas inside Afghanistan and reported that three civilians were killed and four others wounded.
The Afghan government has condemned the strikes as a violation of its sovereignty, while Pakistan says the operations are necessary to counter cross-border militant threats.
The latest action marks another escalation between Islamabad and Kabul, as both sides face growing pressure to address militant activity along the border while diplomatic efforts continue.
The situation remains tense, with concerns that further cross-border attacks could deepen security and diplomatic tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
