Ukraine launched a massive overnight drone assault across Russia as the country was concluding its three-day parliamentary elections.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said its forces intercepted more than 1,100 Ukrainian drones across Russia, occupied Crimea and the Black Sea. Hundreds were reportedly heading toward Moscow.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin described the attack as the largest drone assault on the capital since the war began. Several drones reached the Moscow area, damaging part of an oil refinery and a residential building.
Russian authorities reported deaths and injuries in the wider Moscow region, while emergency teams responded to damaged buildings and other affected sites.
The attack came on the final day of Russia’s parliamentary vote, prompting Moscow officials to accuse Ukraine of trying to disrupt the elections. Ukraine has not publicly confirmed the full scale of the operation.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Kyiv used long-range drones and missiles against Russian oil and logistics facilities that support the country’s war effort.
The latest barrage highlights Ukraine’s growing ability to conduct long-range strikes deep inside Russian territory, while Moscow continues strengthening its air-defence network.
The attack also underscores the widening battle over critical infrastructure, as both sides continue targeting military and energy-related facilities during the ongoing war.
