Heavy rain has caused widespread flooding across northern Vietnam, with Thanh Hoa and Ninh Binh among the areas badly affected. Rising water has disrupted travel, flooded homes and forced residents to deal with difficult conditions.
Authorities said more than 16,000 homes had been inundated across northern and north-central areas by September 17, while thousands of hectares of crops and aquaculture areas were also affected. Three people were killed in a landslide in Phu Tho province.
In Thanh Hoa, thousands of homes were flooded, while several rivers rose above dangerous levels. Ninh Binh also reported widespread flooding, with some rivers remaining above warning levels.
Heavy rain has also disrupted major roads and isolated communities, making transportation and access to affected areas more difficult. Rescue and emergency teams have been working to assist residents and respond to flooding and landslide risks.
Forecasters warned that more rain could affect Thanh Hoa and surrounding areas, with some locations potentially receiving very heavy rainfall. Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert to rising water, flash floods and landslides.
The flooding has added pressure on communities already dealing with extensive damage to homes, farmland and infrastructure. Emergency operations are continuing as authorities monitor rivers and prepare for further flooding
