Yemen’s Houthi movement claims it has shot down a Saudi F-15 fighter jet over Marib province, releasing video footage that the group says shows the aircraft being hit by a missile and its wreckage burning on the ground.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the fighter was brought down using a domestically produced surface-to-air missile while it was carrying out operations over Marib.
The group also released images of what it identified as the aircraft’s wreckage, while claiming Saudi fighter jets later entered the area to search for the downed aircraft.
However, the claim has not been independently verified, and Saudi Arabia has not publicly confirmed the loss of an F-15.
The reported incident comes amid a sharp escalation in fighting between Saudi forces and the Houthis, with both sides carrying out attacks across Yemen and Saudi territory.
The Houthis have also claimed attacks against Saudi military and energy facilities, while Saudi forces have continued air operations against Houthi positions.
The latest development is adding to wider concerns over regional security, particularly as fighting threatens important energy infrastructure and shipping routes around the Red Sea.
For now, the reported F-15 shootdown remains an unconfirmed Houthi claim, as authorities and independent sources continue to assess the available footage and evidence.
