An NGO rescue vessel has brought 78 migrants to safety in the Mediterranean after carrying out three separate rescue operations. Women, unaccompanied minors, very young children and a newborn baby were among those rescued.

The survivors were found in distress at sea and taken aboard the Ocean Viking, where rescue teams provided immediate medical assistance and basic care.

Several migrants were suffering from heat exhaustion and dehydration after spending hours exposed to difficult conditions at sea. Others had fuel burns, highlighting the dangers faced during the journey.

The rescue operation involved three separate interventions, as the crew worked to locate and assist people travelling in unsafe boats across the central Mediterranean.

The Ocean Viking is now heading toward Italy with the rescued migrants on board. Their arrival will bring an end to a dangerous journey for the group, while authorities prepare to receive them.

The rescue once again highlights the continuing risks faced by migrants attempting to cross the Mediterranean. Despite the dangers, people continue making the perilous journey in search of safety and a better future. The latest rescue also shows the urgent need for safer routes and faster emergency assistance at sea.
