World leaders have gathered in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, for the colorful opening ceremony of the sixth World Nomad Games, bringing together culture, sport and diplomacy on an international stage.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif were among the leaders attending the event.
The opening ceremony celebrated the traditions of nomadic communities through vibrant music, traditional costumes and spectacular cultural performances.
Athletes also showcased ancient sporting traditions, with events including horseback archery, wrestling and other competitions rooted in the heritage of Central Asia.
This year’s games feature athletes from 104 countries, making the event one of the largest international celebrations of traditional nomadic culture.
Beyond the sporting competition, the gathering provides an opportunity for participating countries to strengthen cultural ties and promote international exchange.
The World Nomad Games are being held alongside the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit, bringing together major political leaders and delegations from across the region.
The combination of diplomacy and cultural celebration has placed Bishkek at the center of international attention.
As athletes compete and leaders meet, the games highlight Kyrgyzstan’s role as a host for both regional diplomacy and a global celebration of nomadic heritage.
