China has stepped up emergency assistance to Nepal after devastating floods and mudslides struck communities near the China-Nepal border, leaving widespread destruction in their wake.
Two Chinese Air Force Y-20 transport aircraft arrived in Kathmandu carrying 50 tonnes of emergency rescue supplies and four Chinese tunnel rescue experts. The planes flew in from Chengdu as Nepal continues a major search and relief operation.
The aid shipment includes tents, blankets, sleeping bags, compressed food and first-aid kits, providing essential support for survivors and emergency teams working in disaster-hit communities.
Chinese officials say the supplies will help rescue operations, support the relocation of displaced residents and strengthen Nepal’s emergency response as authorities deal with damaged infrastructure and isolated villages.
The assistance follows severe flooding and a massive mudslide on August 26 that damaged roads, bridges, hydropower facilities and villages along the border region, while leaving people dead and others missing.
The arrival of specialist rescue personnel could prove particularly important in areas where rugged terrain, debris and destroyed transport links are making access extremely difficult.
Nepal is now facing a major humanitarian challenge, with emergency teams continuing to search for survivors while delivering food, shelter and medical assistance.
As international aid reaches the disaster zone, the focus remains on saving lives, locating missing people and helping devastated communities begin the long road to recovery.
