Pakistan has reaffirmed its steadfast support for Syria’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity during high-level talks in Islamabad with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani.
The visit marks the first Syrian foreign ministerial trip to Pakistan in nearly two decades, giving fresh momentum to bilateral relations between the two countries.
During meetings with Pakistani officials, the two sides discussed expanding cooperation in defence, trade, investment and education, while also exchanging views on major regional and international developments.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s support for Syria’s position on the Golan Heights and expressed solidarity with the Syrian people.
The prime minister also invited Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa to visit Pakistan, signalling Islamabad’s interest in strengthening high-level political engagement with Damascus.
The discussions come as Syria continues to face major security and economic challenges while seeking to rebuild institutions and strengthen international partnerships.
Pakistan has traditionally maintained close diplomatic ties with Syria and says it supports efforts that preserve the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The latest visit is therefore being seen as an important step toward deeper Pakistan-Syria cooperation, with both sides looking to expand relations across political, economic and security fields.
