Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has inaugurated Google’s first local office in Pakistan, marking a major development in the country’s digital and technology sector.
The office was inaugurated in Islamabad as Google expands its presence in Pakistan and seeks to strengthen cooperation with the government, businesses and the country’s growing technology community.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan is going through a major digital transformation, particularly in governance and the economy. He highlighted the country’s large young population and said there is significant potential to create new opportunities through technology and innovation.
Google Vice President Wilson L. White described the opening as a major milestone for the company’s engagement with Pakistan.
The government hopes Google’s local presence will help strengthen Pakistan’s technology ecosystem, develop digital skills, support entrepreneurs and encourage further international technology investment. IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja also said the office could strengthen the country’s talent pipeline and create greater opportunities for young professionals.
The development comes as Islamabad targets rapid growth in IT exports and seeks to position Pakistan as a competitive digital economy.
For Pakistan’s young technology workforce, the arrival of Google’s permanent local presence is being seen as a potentially important step toward greater digital investment, skills development and global opportunities.
