India is celebrating its 80th Independence Day, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading the national commemorations from the historic Red Fort in New Delhi.

Modi hoisted the national flag and addressed the nation, paying tribute to the freedom fighters whose sacrifices led to India's independence in 1947.

This year's celebrations place a strong focus on “Yuva Shakti,” or youth power, highlighting the role of India's young population in shaping the country's future and its ambition to become a developed nation by 2047.

The ceremony also marked 150 years of “Vande Mataram,” with the national song being performed at the Red Fort before the national anthem for the first time.

In his Independence Day address, Modi outlined a vision focused on faster development, self-reliance, technological progress and greater opportunities for India's youth.

Celebrations are taking place across the country, with flag-hoisting ceremonies, patriotic programs and cultural events bringing communities together.

As India marks eight decades of independence, the government is presenting the occasion as a moment to remember the past while looking toward its goal of building a Viksit Bharat by 2047.

The celebrations reflect a nationwide message of patriotism, unity and ambition for India's future.
