Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says Kyiv's campaign against Russia's energy infrastructure is putting growing pressure on Moscow's economy and its ability to finance the war.

Ukraine has intensified long-range strikes on oil refineries, fuel depots, export terminals, and other energy facilities deep inside Russian territory.

Zelenskyy has described the campaign as part of Ukraine's long-range strategy to weaken Russia's military and economic capacity, with Kyiv indicating that further strikes are planned.

The attacks have already disrupted parts of Russia's fuel and oil-export network, with Ukrainian drones reaching facilities far from the front lines.

A 2026 assessment by the Kyiv School of Economics Institute found that earlier strikes on major Russian oil-export ports caused significant disruptions, including an estimated 1.8 billion dollars in lost oil exports during a period in March and April.

Separate estimates put the losses suffered by Russia's oil sector from Ukrainian strikes in 2025 at more than one trillion rubles, including direct damage, lost profits, and other indirect costs.

Kyiv says the objective is to make Russia pay a greater economic price for continuing the war.

As Ukraine expands its long-range campaign, Moscow faces increasing pressure to protect its energy infrastructure while maintaining fuel supplies and financing its military operations.
