Thousands of supporters of Yemen's Houthi movement gathered in Sabeen Square in the capital, Sanaa, after the group's leader, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, called for nationwide demonstrations amid rising tensions with Saudi Arabia.
Crowds waved Houthi flags, carried banners, and chanted slogans as they expressed support for the movement and condemned Saudi Arabia over the latest dispute involving Sanaa International Airport.
The demonstrations follow Houthi claims that Saudi airstrikes targeted the airport earlier this week to prevent an Iranian aircraft from landing.
Saudi authorities have not publicly confirmed those allegations.
Meanwhile, the internationally recognized Yemeni government has rejected the Houthi narrative, saying there is no blockade on Houthi-controlled areas and accusing the group of using Sanaa International Airport to facilitate Iranian military support.
The Houthis, who control much of northern Yemen, including the capital, are backed by Iran, while Saudi Arabia has long supported Yemen's internationally recognized government.
Although a United Nations-brokered truce in 2022 significantly reduced large-scale fighting, efforts to reach a permanent political settlement have repeatedly stalled.
The latest accusations and mass demonstrations highlight the fragile security situation in Yemen, where renewed regional tensions continue to complicate hopes for a lasting peace.
