Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has called for a national movement to conserve water, saying Pakistan must act now to secure its future against growing water challenges.
Addressing the IWT 2026 conference, Bilawal said, "We must make every drop count, not because India is stealing our water, but because Pakistan has a duty to protect its future. Do not confuse resilience with retreat."
He stressed that Pakistan's water crisis should be addressed through long-term planning, innovation, and responsible resource management rather than panic or short-term solutions.
Bilawal urged governments, farmers, industries, and ordinary citizens to work together to reduce water waste, improve irrigation efficiency, and protect the country's rivers, reservoirs, and groundwater resources.
He said climate change, rapid population growth, and increasing pressure on water supplies demand immediate action and a comprehensive national strategy.
The PPP chairman also emphasized that Pakistan would continue to safeguard its rights under international water agreements while simultaneously strengthening domestic water management and conservation efforts.
He called for greater investment in dams, modern irrigation systems, water recycling projects, and public awareness campaigns to ensure sustainable water use for future generations.
Concluding his address, Bilawal said protecting Pakistan's water resources is not only an environmental responsibility but also a matter of national security, economic stability, and the well-being of generations to come.
