Pakistan has strongly rejected India’s objections to the upcoming elections in Gilgit-Baltistan, escalating the latest diplomatic exchange between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
In a sharply worded statement, Pakistan’s Foreign Office dismissed New Delhi’s protest as based on what it called “outlandish claims,” accusing India of attempting to blur the line between fact and fiction. Islamabad further alleged that India has become a leading source of what it described as misleading narratives and propaganda on regional issues.
The response came after India formally objected to the planned electoral process in Gilgit-Baltistan, a region that remains linked to the broader Kashmir dispute.
Reiterating its long-standing position, Pakistan stated that Jammu and Kashmir remains an internationally recognized disputed territory and described the issue as one of the oldest unresolved matters on the agenda of the United Nations Security Council.
Islamabad also renewed calls for India to end what it termed its occupation of disputed territories, repeal controversial laws in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, and grant independent international observers access to assess the human rights situation in the region.
The latest exchange highlights the continuing tensions between Pakistan and India, with Kashmir remaining a central source of disagreement in relations between the two countries.
