Pakistan has earned significant international recognition in the field of digital governance, with two innovative public service projects receiving honors at the United Nations-backed World Summit on the Information Society, or WSIS, Awards 2026. The achievement marks a major milestone for the country on the global technology and development stage.
The Punjab Safe Cities Authority's flagship child protection initiative, known as "Mera Pyara," has been recognized as a Champion Project at the prestigious international forum. The digital platform was created to help reunite missing children, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities with their families while also providing support in cases involving child protection and online safety.
Another Pakistani initiative, the Virtual Women Police Station, was also shortlisted among the world's leading digital governance projects. Together, the two projects made Pakistan the only country to have two public-sector initiatives recognized in this category during the competition.
Officials say the recognition reflects growing international confidence in Pakistan's use of technology to deliver citizen-focused public services. The achievement highlights the country's progress in digital innovation and showcases how technology-driven solutions are being used to address real social challenges while improving public welfare and community safety.
