The United Nations has reaffirmed its position on Gaza, declaring that the entire territory should remain for the Palestinian people amid growing debate over the future of the enclave.
Speaking during a UN briefing, UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric responded to reports that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is considering expanding Israeli control over parts of Gaza.
Dujarric stated that the United Nations continues to support the withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied areas in Gaza, including what he referred to as the ‘so-called yellow line.’
The comments come as international attention remains focused on the humanitarian situation in Gaza and ongoing discussions about the territory’s future after months of conflict.
The UN spokesperson also addressed broader developments across the Middle East, including reports of ceasefire negotiations involving Iran and the United States.
Dujarric said the United Nations hopes diplomacy will prevail and stressed the importance of dialogue in reducing regional tensions and preventing further escalation.
He also called for the reopening and protection of key maritime routes that are critical to global trade and regional stability.
Separately, the United Nations condemned a reported drone strike in Romania, warning about the risks of conflict spilling beyond existing battle zones and threatening wider regional security.
The organization also highlighted the importance of peacekeeping efforts in Lebanon, describing the role of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, or UNIFIL, as essential for maintaining stability and implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
As conflicts continue across multiple regions, the United Nations says diplomacy, international cooperation, and respect for international law remain critical to preventing further instability and protecting civilian populations.
