Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Beijing during the Pakistani leader’s ongoing official visit to China.
Shehbaz Sharif began his four-day visit on Saturday with his arrival in Hangzhou, located in China’s eastern Zhejiang province, before continuing high-level meetings in Beijing.
The visit is focused on strengthening bilateral relations between Pakistan and China, with discussions covering regional peace, economic cooperation, trade, investment, and strategic partnerships.
During the meeting, both leaders reaffirmed the close friendship between the two countries and discussed ways to expand cooperation under major development projects and regional initiatives.
Officials say regional security and ongoing diplomatic efforts connected to tensions in the Middle East were also part of the discussions between the two sides.
The visit comes at a time when Pakistan and China continue coordinating closely on economic development and international diplomacy.
Shehbaz Sharif has repeatedly appreciated China’s support for regional stability and peaceful dialogue, especially regarding efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the Middle East.
The Pakistani prime minister is also expected to hold additional meetings with senior Chinese officials and business representatives during the remainder of his visit.
Analysts say the trip highlights the long-standing strategic partnership between Islamabad and Beijing as both countries continue strengthening political, economic, and diplomatic ties.
