Abbas Araghchi says Vladimir Putin has discussed Moscow’s proposal to take custody of Iran’s enriched uranium as part of ongoing efforts to ease tensions surrounding stalled nuclear negotiations.
Speaking about recent diplomatic discussions, Araghchi confirmed that the issue was raised during meetings with Putin, but stressed that Tehran is not prepared to enter detailed negotiations on the proposal “at this stage.”
According to Iranian officials, the idea remains a possible future option rather than an immediate decision by Tehran.
The Russian proposal, which has surfaced in previous diplomatic rounds, involves transferring or managing Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile outside the country as a confidence-building measure.
Supporters of the plan argue it could help reduce international concerns over Iran’s enrichment levels while creating space for renewed diplomacy.
The discussions come as nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States remain deadlocked over sanctions, uranium enrichment, and verification measures.
