European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has announced a new sanctions package targeting violent Israeli settlers, Hamas-linked individuals, and figures associated with Iran.
Speaking after a foreign ministers’ meeting in Brussels, Kallas said the European Union is moving beyond a long-standing political deadlock over sanctions policy in the Middle East.
She stressed that “violence and extremism carry consequences,” describing the measures as part of a broader effort to apply targeted pressure on groups accused of contributing to regional instability.
According to EU officials, the sanctions include financial restrictions, travel bans, and additional measures aimed at limiting support networks tied to violence and militant activities.
The package also expands restrictions connected to Iran over concerns surrounding maritime security and threats to freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical energy corridors, with a major share of global oil exports passing through the region each day.
European officials say protecting international shipping routes and regional stability remains a key priority amid rising tensions across the Gulf.
The decision follows months of internal divisions within the European Union over how strongly to respond to developments in the Middle East.
As geopolitical tensions continue to grow, the new sanctions are expected to add further diplomatic pressure across an already volatile region.
