The incident occurred when a projectile struck a UNIFIL position near the village of Adchit al‑Qusayr, killing one peacekeeper and seriously wounding a colleague. The source of the attack remains under investigation, and the United Nations has called for calm and restraint.
Indonesia, whose citizen was killed in the attack, has condemned the violence and demanded a full investigation, emphasizing the need to protect the safety and neutrality of U.N. personnel operating in the conflict zone.
U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres also condemned the attack, stressing that peacekeepers should never be targeted. UNIFIL’s mandate is to help maintain a fragile ceasefire and monitor hostilities along the Lebanon–Israel frontier, but the escalation of clashes between Israeli forces and Iran-aligned Hezbollah militants has increasingly put its personnel in harm’s way.
