The war between Israel and Iran has entered its second week with both sides continuing to exchange missile and drone attacks across the region. Israeli airstrikes have targeted military and infrastructure sites in Tehran and other strategic areas while Iran has launched retaliatory missile barrages toward Israeli positions and U.S linked targets across the Gulf.
Amid the escalating conflict Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has issued a rare apology to neighboring countries affected by Iranian strikes. In a televised address he said he personally apologizes to neighboring states that were impacted by Iran’s actions calling the situation a consequence of the ongoing war.
Pezeshkian also revealed that Iran’s temporary leadership council has agreed to suspend attacks on nearby countries unless strikes on Iran originate from their territory. The move appears aimed at easing tensions with Gulf nations that host U.S. military bases and were recently hit by Iranian missiles and drones during the conflict.
Despite the apology the fighting shows no sign of slowing. Israel has continued airstrikes on Iranian-linked targets while Iran says it will keep responding to what it calls aggression by Israel and its allies.
The crisis began after joint strikes by the United States and Israel on Iranian targets late last month triggering a wider regional confrontation that has raised fears of a broader Middle East war and further instability across the Gulf.
