The United Kingdom has unveiled a major update to its visa process for Pakistani nationals introducing a fully digital e‑visa system that replaces traditional passport stickers with online confirmation delivered by email. Under the new arrangement applicants including tourists family visitors students and workers will still complete their visa applications online and attend a visa application center to provide biometric data but once that’s done they no longer need to return to collect their passport. Instead successful applicants receive a digital record of their immigration status through an online UK Visas and Immigration account making travel preparation more convenient and secure.
Officials note that the e‑visa system reduces the risk of lost or damaged documents and allows travelers to generate a share code to prove their visa status at borders or other checkpoints without changing the underlying visa processing times eligibility criteria or conditions.
British High Commissioner Jane Marriott welcomed the rollout as a step that will save time and simplify travel for Pakistanis heading to the UK for tourism visiting loved ones business meetings study or work saying the system makes it “easier than ever” to demonstrate one’s visa status.
The UK first tested the e‑visa format for students and work visa holders last year with thousands already using digital visas at UK airports worldwide and now the expansion to general visitors reflects a broader shift toward paperless immigration management.
For travelers and applicants the transition to digital visas aims to streamline the overall experience and bring the UK’s visa system in line with modern secure online practices while existing sticker visas remain valid until their expiry.
