Russia has launched a major new barrage of missile and drone strikes against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure targeting power facilities across key regions including the capital Kyiv the Black Sea port of Odesa and central areas of the country.
The coordinated overnight attack involved ballistic missiles cruise missiles and dozens of strike drones designed to hit critical electrical substations thermal power plants and other parts of Ukraine’s energy network. Local officials reported damage in multiple districts around Kyiv and at least one person injured in the region.
In Odesa nighttime drone strikes sparked fires at energy facilities though authorities said the blazes were later brought under control. Similar assaults on energy infrastructure have become a regular feature of the conflict as Moscow seeks to weaken Ukraine’s ability to sustain both civilian life and national defence.
Ukraine has repeatedly condemned these attacks saying they target essential services like electricity and heating and worsen hardships for civilians especially during winter months. The strikes come amid broader hostilities that have now continued for years and as diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict remain stalled.
Officials say such attacks not only damage power grids but also disrupt gas supplies and other energy systems that are vital for industry hospitals and everyday life complicating Ukraine’s recovery and defence efforts.
This latest escalation underscores ongoing tensions on the battlefield and the strategic focus on infrastructure warfare with both sides increasingly targeting facilities that underpin daily life and economic stability as the conflict persists.
