Dubai police have fined a child’s guardian AED 50,000 after a minor was caught riding a recreational motorbike on a public road underscoring strict enforcement of traffic and child safety laws in the emirate. Officers from traffic patrols stopped the young rider who was accompanied by another minor to prevent any risk to the children and other road users. The vehicle was impounded and can only be released once the fine is paid under Dubai’s traffic regulations. Police said the guardian was summoned after the incident and legal action was taken under the UAE’s child protection law which makes it a crime to put minors in danger or neglect their safety. Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei Assistant Commander in Chief for Operations Affairs at Dubai Police warned that children are not physically or mentally prepared to handle public road traffic conditions and that allowing them to ride vehicles on open streets poses serious risks including accidents and injuries. Authorities said recreational bikes and similar vehicles should only be used in designated closed off areas under proper supervision not on busy streets among moving traffic.
