The United States has publicly thanked Pakistan for supporting former President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan and for joining the newly formed “Board of Peace,” officials say.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio took to social media to express appreciation after meeting Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar in Washington. He said Pakistan’s backing of the peace initiative and its participation in the Board’s inaugural session reflect a strong strategic partnership.
In their talks Rubio and Shehbaz also discussed cooperation on critical minerals energy development counterterrorism and broader economic ties between Islamabad and Washington highlighting the depth of bilateral relations.
Pakistan’s leaders attended the first ever meeting of the Board of Peace a body launched by Trump to help shepherd a durable ceasefire and long‑term reconstruction in war‑torn Gaza. Shehbaz described his participation as an honour and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to achieving lasting peace and stability in the region.
In his address Shehbaz stressed the need for full adherence to ceasefire agreements and for meaningful steps toward a political resolution that respects United Nations mandates on Palestinian self‑determination.
President Trump also singled out Shehbaz and Field Marshal Asim Munir for praise during the event underscoring the personal rapport between the U.S. and Pakistani leadership in this diplomatic effort.
