The global online video platform YouTube briefly went offline Tuesday leaving hundreds of thousands of users unable to access videos apps and related services with the worst disruptions seen in the United States.
According to outage‑tracking data more than 320,000 problem reports flooded Down detector in the U.S. alone with users reporting issues accessing the YouTube homepage video recommendations and features across the main site mobile apps and affiliated services like YouTube Music YouTube Kids and YouTube TV.
Users in other countries including India Britain Australia Mexico and Singapore also signaled problems with the platform showing error messages or blank screens at the peak of the disruption.
Online reactions poured in on social media as frustrated viewers shared screenshots joked about being unable to stream content and checked outage maps to confirm the widespread impact.
YouTube acknowledged the issue in an update on X (formerly Twitter) saying the problem stemmed from a glitch in its recommendations system the engine that curates what users see on the homepage and app feeds.
By Wednesday morning the company said the recommendations error had been fixed and all services were restored to normal reassuring users that the temporary outage was resolved.
Despite being operational again the outage served as a reminder of how reliant billions of viewers are on YouTube’s infrastructure for entertainment news learning and live streaming and how even brief disruptions can ripple across global internet usage.
