Pakistan has raised serious concerns at the United Nations Security Council over the continued presence of terrorist groups operating from Afghan soil. Islamabad says organizations such as the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan the Balochistan Liberation Army Islamic State Khorasan Province and Al-Qaeda are using Afghan territory to plan and launch attacks against Pakistan posing a direct threat to regional security.
Pakistani Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad told the council that recent UN reports confirm the existence of militant sanctuaries in Afghanistan and he urged the Taliban authorities to take concrete measures to dismantle these bases and prevent their land from being exploited for cross-border attacks. Islamabad emphasized that denying the presence of these groups is no longer credible stressing that Afghanistan must fulfill its international obligations in counter-terrorism.
Officials also highlighted that groups like the BLA continue to target civilians and security forces in Pakistan prompting Islamabad to call for stronger international sanctions and coordinated action. The ambassador stressed that long-term peace in the region depends on Afghanistan’s commitment to preventing its territory from becoming a safe haven for militants.
China and other UN members echoed Pakistan’s concerns warning that terrorism in Afghanistan remains a serious threat to regional stability. Islamabad says it will continue diplomatic and defensive measures while working with the international community to pressure the Taliban into action stressing that global support is crucial to stop cross-border attacks and ensure lasting peace.
