Pakistan Launches Indigenous EO-2 Satellite With China, Boosting Space Capabilities

Pakistan has marked a major milestone in its national space programme with the successful launch of its second indigenous Earth Observation Satellite EO‑2 from China’s Yangjiang Seashore Launch Centre on Thursday. Developed by the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) the EO‑2 satellite was conceived engineered and integrated in Pakistan reflecting growing domestic expertise in satellite design payload integration and mission readiness.


Launched aboard China’s space infrastructure the mission underscores the deepening strategic cooperation between Pakistan and China and further strengthens Islamabad’s space capabilities. EO‑2 is designed to significantly enhance Pakistan’s Earth observation and high‑resolution imaging providing critical data for national development planning natural resource management environmental monitoring disaster assessment and climate analysis.


Officials say the addition of EO‑2 to the country’s satellite fleet will improve continuity coverage and precision of satellite data enabling better policy planning urban expansion tracking and strategic decision‑making. The mission demonstrates Pakistan’s expanding indigenous capacity while benefiting from China’s launch support and expertise.


Senior leaders including President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated SUPARCO scientists engineers and researchers for the achievement highlighting the launch as an example of growing technological self‑reliance and a significant step forward in national space ambitions. The successful EO‑2 mission also reflects long‑standing partnership ties with China in advanced space science and technology.
