UAE authorities have shut down 230 social media accounts in a sweeping operation targeting fraudulent job advertisements that lured victims with promises of employment in the country. Officials said many of the posts shared under slogans such as “excellent job opportunities in Dubai,” targeted both overseas jobseekers and residents asking them to pay fees for visas processing or recruitment services that did not exist.
The accounts were found operating without government licenses making the promotion of employment opportunities a criminal offence under UAE law. Authorities warned that individuals running such scams face fines ranging from 20,000 to 100,000 dirhams around five thousand to twenty seven thousand US dollars and up to six months in prison.
Officials stressed the importance of verifying vacancies through official channels and licensed recruitment agencies and urged jobseekers not to transfer money in response to online job offers. The crackdown is part of broader efforts to combat online fraud protect the country’s labour market and prevent exploitation and misinformation from spreading through social media.
Authorities said the campaign sends a clear message that illegal recruitment practices will not be tolerated reinforcing the UAE’s commitment to maintaining a safe transparent and regulated employment environment for residents and foreign workers alike.
