Dubai has officially launched its driverless taxi service a major milestone in the emirate’s smart city and transport strategy. The first ride was taken by Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum who described the initiative as a step toward a safer smarter and more efficient urban transport system.
The autonomous taxis known as RT6 vehicles use artificial intelligence and advanced sensors to navigate public roads detect obstacles and respond to traffic and pedestrians without a human driver. Officials say this launch marks the first phase of a broader plan with 100 driverless taxis set to enter service in the coming month.
The project is part of Dubai’s wider strategy to integrate intelligent mobility solutions improve public transport and showcase the emirate as a global leader in innovation. It has been developed by the Roads and Transport Authority in collaboration with global technology partners following extensive trials and regulatory preparation.
