The President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was accorded a formal welcome and a ceremonial guard of honour at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad during an official state visit to Pakistan.
President Tokayev arrived in the Pakistani capital accompanied by a high-level delegation of senior ministers and officials for a two-day visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
As the Kazakh leader stepped onto the saluting dais national anthems of both countries were played and a smartly turned-out contingent of the Pakistan armed forces presented a traditional guard of honour a symbol of diplomatic respect and goodwill.
Prime Minister Shehbaz personally received President Tokayev at the entrance of the Prime Minister’s House where both leaders introduced their respective delegations before heading into bilateral meetings.
The visit marks President Tokayev’s first official state trip to Pakistan and is seen as a key moment to deepen cooperation across a wide range of areas including trade investment regional connectivity and energy.
Officials say that during the talks both sides will review the full spectrum of bilateral relations and are expected to sign agreements and memoranda of understanding in several sectors to boost economic and strategic ties.
The streets of Islamabad were decorated with the flags of Pakistan and Kazakhstan and the welcoming ceremony also included the planting of a commemorative sapling in the lawn of the Prime Minister’s House as a gesture of friendship.
Analysts say this high-level engagement reflects growing diplomatic momentum between Islamabad and Astana with both countries aiming to strengthen collaboration and explore new avenues for mutual benefit.
