Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has released striking new lost-and-found figures revealing just how much passengers leave behind in taxis every year and how efficiently the system works to recover it.
Over the past year more than 104,000 lost-property reports were handled across the city. Among the recovered items were over two million dirhams in cash around 35,000 electronic devices including mobile phones and laptops and nearly 3,000 passports and official documents along with jewelry bags and other valuables.
These recoveries were made possible by the RTA’s dedicated Lost and Found Team operating through its central call center. The team works closely with taxi companies and drivers using trip data vehicle tracking and passenger verification to trace missing items often returning belongings within hours of a report being filed.
Officials have also praised the honesty and professionalism of taxi drivers including many from the Pakistani community who consistently report items found in their vehicles rather than keeping them. Their cooperation has been described as a key reason for the high recovery rate.
The figures highlight more than just forgetfulness they reflect Dubai’s emphasis on trust accountability and efficient public services. In a fast-moving city where millions rely on taxis every day the lost-and-found system has become a quiet success story ensuring that even when passengers forget the city doesn’t.
